So what is this oddly shaped CX500 clutch nut that everybody talks about?

If you are reading up on the Honda CX500 clutch before opening up the bike you will likely see references to an oddly shaped clutch nut, which requires a special tool/Gator socket/modified pipe to do up or undo. So what exactly does it look like? Here’s a pic – it’s the nut in the middle, between the four springs:

So what is this weirdly shaped clutch nut that people talk about on a Honda CX500, GL500, CX650 or GL650? Here's a photo.

We find that the King Gator socket works well for this and you can grab one on eBay. It is a generally handy socket to have for other oddly shaped or damaged nuts and bolts.
