Dawn’s top of the line vices are their SG – super grade – line. Today I am reviewing their 100mm SG offset vice, part number 60189. This one I found used and rusty, so there’s a minor restoration involved.

After disassembling the vice we can see the unusual shape of the slide:

The jaws are held on with bolts that have a 13mm head:

The marks on the back of the jaws clean off, leaving nice flat jaws. They’re a bit rusty:

After a dip in some Evapo-rust (found on eBay UK, eBay AU, eBay US) they cleared up nicely – it does look a bit like the jaws were painted the same colour as the vice:

The old nut was stripped out – old on right, new on left:
