Each raised section should have a flat top – not look like a triangle! The above view is the one which faces the mating surface; if we look at the opposite side which doesn’t mate, we can see what it looked like to begin with:

Ideally, you want yours to look like that little stub that’s left on this side. With proper lubricant they should look like their new shape for a very long time… best guess with this one is incorrect lubricant usage or no lubricant changes.
