We seem to be missing the pictures of the cap before the paint remover was applied… so here we begin – Septone paint remover applied:
We think this one was repainted some time in the past, as it didn’t seem to have the clearcoat that makes the paint stripper’s job harder.

Stripper removed with a sink scourer:

A few minutes of work with a wire brush removed most of the rust:
A light sand sorted the rest:
A bit of masking tape over the keyhole:
Any errant scratches were tidied up with finer grit sandpaper, the surface thoroughly cleaned with wax and grease remover and then it was time for the undercoat. We’re using Duplicolor High Heat metal primer:
And then the final coats in Duplicolor High Heat gloss paint:
You can bake it in an oven or leave it for a week or so to cure. We’re quite pleased with the quality of the Duplicolor paint.
