Replacement fuel filters alternatives for the Honda CX500, GL500, CX650 and GL650 motorcycles
From the factory the CX and GL bikes come with a filter screen above the petcock; is that enough? Many believe not. Since cleaning the carburetors properly is a laborious task, many riders have added an in-line fuel filter to combat the small particles of rust and debris which can make their way through the petcock screen. Many CX tanks have at least a little bit of rust in them these days – with most barn finds it’s a near-certainty… and it only takes a tiny bit to block up your carbs. Let’s take a look at the fuel filter options.
In-line filter
There are many options for an in-line filter; here are a couple of recommended options.
Murray from Murray’s Carbs recommends this one: eBay US, eBay AU, eBay UK – the red seems to be part number 14-34470, and check that you are getting a filter with 1/4″ barbs.
We have used the Emgo 14-34451 in the past with good success, found on Amazon, eBay US, eBay AU or eBay UK.
