We start with disassembling the upper part of the Honda CB250N carburetors because it’s preferably to have the open top upside down on a bench when working on the bottom than vice-versa; you don’t want to accidentally break off a float post because you were leaning too heavily on the bolts on the top! We are interested in removing the caps from the top:
Each is held in by two bolts with washers – 5x16mm (part number 93500-050160H) with a 5mm spring washer (part number 94111-05800 – eBay US<, eBay UK<, eBay AU);
A good Phillips #2 should suffice to remove them. Be aware that there is a spring underneath, though it isn’t under a lot of tension – best to keep a little bit of pressure on the cap when you undo the second screw just in case:

Now we can see the top of the slide piston:
This should simply slide free:
Now you should see this:
