Here’s how to press out the main crankshaft bearing that’s held within the crank cap at the back of the motor for a Honda CX500, GL500, CX650, GL650.
For this you need a hydraulic press (eBay US, eBay AU, eBay UK and Amazon) and the Honda tool 07973-4150000. First we will look at the crankshaft cap. Insert the “R” end of the tool into the crankshaft from the outside (rear side of the motor, the outside in relation to how it sits when it is installed):
Mount the crank plate safely in the bearing press – making sure that the bearing has somewhere clear to move into as it is pressed out and isn’t going to fall to the floor. Making sure that it’s going in straight, smoothly press the bearing out.
At this point it’s out – there’s a little bit of extra height in the tool so that it drops slightly once the bearing falls out, which is a nice indicator that you should stop pressing at that point..!

We will do a writeup on pressing them back in and also in/out of the crankcase when there’s time.
