Removing the accelerator pump diaphragm – Honda CX500, GL500, CX650, GL650

The accelerator pump on Honda’s CX500, GL500, CX650 and GL650 carburetors is located on the left hand carburetor body if it is present at all. It’s underneath the float bowl – so it’ll be hard to see when the carbs are on the bike but if you have them in front of you upside down it should be pretty clear. Here it is on a Honda CX650E set of carbs:

It’s held in with three 4mmx12mm screws with washers, Honda part number 93892-0401200 ( still available new)- use a JIS driver (eBay US, eBay AU, eBay UK) to get these out, they’re not Phillips. Size #1 or #2 from memory. Be mindful of the fact that there’s a spring underneath here, which you probably won’t want shooting off a) into the dark recesses of your garage or b) into your eye.
