Honda’s motorcycle part numbers and product codes may look hard to understand at first glance but they are quite sensibly laid out into two categories; general parts and standard parts. Standard parts are things like O-rings and common bolts, and are a two-part number;
94608-50000
The above number is used on the water transfer pipes on the CX/GL motorcycles and is an O-ring – 23×2.8mm. The first set of digits indicates the function or type of part and the second indicates the dimensions – sometimes, anyhow. For example 96000-0602800 is a flange bolt that is 6mm x 28mm – you can see the dimensions in the second part of the part number. General part numbers – parts which are specific to Honda – will look like this:
13300-415-000
That’s the original crankshaft for a 1978 CX500. The later GL500 has the crankshaft model number:
13300-MA1-000
The first part – 13300 – shows the function and component number of the part, in this case a crankshaft. You’ll notice that parts with similar functions will have similar numbers – e.g. a clutch friction plate may be 22201-*, where the clutch steel plates are 22311-*. The second part – 415 or MA1 in the above examples – is the product code which shows which model the part was used on, 415 being a CX500 and MA1 being a GL500. The last part – apparently called the classification number – shows which supplier or revision the part number is used for.
