Which flywheels are cross-compatible? – Honda CX500, GL500, CX650, GL650

So, you have a busted or rusted flywheel and need a new one. Which other models will have a flywheel that fits your bike? The answer depends on whether you have a CDI (all CX500s until very late in the run) or TI bike (all 650s, all GLs, some late (’81-82) CX500s in some areas of the world).

CDI

In a nutshell, you need a flywheel from a CDI bike. That means you need one from a CX500 – ’78, ’79, ’80 should be almost certainly CDI unless the engine has been changed for another model but it always pays to check.

TI

CX650 – both 650ED and 650C – GL500s, GL650s and the TI CX500s (’82 CX500s in the US and AU are likely to be TI) all share the same flywheel part.
