A closer look at the starter clutch - Honda CX500, GL500, CX650, GL650

The starter clutch is attached to the inner part of the flywheel; in this photo it's the rusty circle on the inside of the flywheel with the three Torx bolts:

Looking at it more closely, we can see that there are little cutaways with some rollers in them:

Behind the rollers are the caps, which contain springs:

You should be able to press the rollers back with a finger, compressing the springs:

The rollers are hardened steel:

Once they're removed, the caps should be pushed out by the springs:

You can lift the cap and spring out;
