To remove the mechanical seal on a Honda CX500, GL500, CX650 or GL650 motorcycle you can make your own press tool out of a nut/bolt or nut/threaded bar and a pipe or sockets and perhaps washers. Also, you first need to have removed the camshaft oil seal. Today we used a long bolt:

One end goes through a socket or pipe section, sized to press out the mechanical seal - i.e. it should be smaller than the hole in the rear cover that the seal sits in but not much smaller. An outside diameter of approx. 25-27mm would be well suited:

The bolt passes through the center of the mechanical seal and out the other side, where you need to put on a socket or pipe section that is large enough to accomodate the mechanical seal being pressed out in it's direction.

A washer is a good idea to stop the turning nut or bolt from damaging the socket if you're using one:

This is the side that the seal pushes out towards. The socket (or pipe, or whatever else) needs to be wider than the silver metal lip of the outside of the seal that sits against the rear cover.
