How to check the engine oil level – Honda CB125E, GLH125SH

So you’ve located your dipstick, now how do you check the oil? Here’s how to do it on your Honda CB125E or GLH125SH motorcycle.

If the engine is cold, start it and let it idle for 5 minutes. Stop the engine, then put the motorcycle on the center stand – or if you have removed the stand safely hold it upright (second person is handy for that). Let it stand upright for 2-3 minutes to let the oil drain back down into the sump, and then unscrew the dipstick:

Wipe off any oil on the end of the dipstick with a rag:

Incidentally, if your oil level is very low that’s what your dipstick will look like when you remove it.

Re-insert the dipstick into the engine, but don’t screw it in – just let it rest against the threads. After a couple of seconds, carefully remove it and see how high the oil mark is. The area to look at is:

You don’t want it to be overfull, but you also don’t want it to be below the “full” line – if it’s beneath that top it back up to the full line and check for leaks.
