As far as using a 650 water pump cover on a 500 motor goes, the different parts actually have different impellers to match; see here. You may be able to replace the impeller/water pump cover in one go with the different model but changing the cooling system like that may have unintended consequences; pending further information we would recommend sticking to what came from the factory for your model.
