In a nutshell, it’s a quick release catch that has a shutoff built in to one side of it so that the fuel cannot flow when it is disconnected. They do a dual-sided shutoff as well, but if your petcock is on the non-shutoff side and is turned off that’s going to do basically the same thing. Out of the packaging, the faces that clip together look like this:

It certainly works as advertised, and it does make pulling the fuel line out from the petcock so you can remove the tank a mess-free affair… which is always handy for those times when it’s off and on regularly while you’re sorting out some issue or another.
