Here's how to perform the static timing procedure on a Honda CX500, GL500, CX650, GL650 or GL700 motorcycle.

Unlike the early motors - the CDI CX500 motors, to be specific - the TI-equipped motors require that the timing has to be re-set upon reassembly. While you could just do the static timing check, it makes a lot of sense to do three steps to check the system over in it's entirety when reassembling a TI CX or GL motor;

Don't just go off a scribe mark and hope for the best - the previous person who set it may not have set it correctly themselves, and simply replacing it where it came from may be repeating their mistake! Doing these procedures also covers you for reassembling the timing rotor 180 degrees out.
