If you are just coming in on this page and haven’t got your motor opened up yet, click here for the procedures to get to this point. One you have set the cam and crank in the correct alignment – see here, and remember not to rotate either once you set it and the chain is off – you will need to undo the two bolts holding the sprocket on.
They take a 10mm socket:
The two bolts are 7x17mm and are part number 90081-415-000 (eBay – not often).
If you don’t have any blue threadlocker (it’s cheap on eBay or Amazon so no excuse) get some now if you intend on putting these bolts back – they need it, as if they back out during engine operation it can have disastrous consequences. The sprocket once the bolts are removed:
At this point there’s nothing holding the sprocket onto the camshaft, so it should slide towards you easily:
Another reminder – don’t rotate the crank or camshaft while the chain is off! Speaking of the chain being off:
The chain part number is 14401-MA1-013 (eBay) – this supersedes the original part number 14401-415-003 and a subsequent part number 14401-ME2-003. The cam sprocket part number is 14321-415-000 (eBay). Don’t buy a used chain! For a variety of other sources for chains, check out the triple/quadruple bypass parts list page.
