The starter clutch is an essential part of the system which starts your bike. It’s not commonly seen, though, as it lives inside the engine’s flywheel.
*pic coming* The starter clutch is designed to rotate freely in one direction, and catch in the other. The starter motor applies force to it in the direction that it doesn’t spin freely in, allowing the starter motor to spin the crankshaft at a relatively low RPM. Once the engine fires up and spins at a greater speed than the starter motor, however, the force exerted on the starter clutch is in the opposite direction – and it spins freely.
