Painting the rear drum brake cover – Honda CX500, GL500, CX650C

The outside of this particular brake drum cover could do with some TLC:

Don’t lose the little tab:

Take note of the inside – it’s keyed so it can only go back on one way:

A sink scourer and steel pan scrubber:

…and a little bit of metho to help get some of the grease off:

Ten minutes of scrubbing gets us to here:

Masking off areas with some tape:

Note: Next time we will leave the tip of the spline unmasked. Only the head of the screw needs painting:

Undercoat applied – in this case we are using Duplicolor High Heat engine primer:

More undercoating:

Including the little tab:

Gloss black Duplicolor High Heat:

We’ll update with a photo of it on the bike.
