There’s two clutch baskets which were used on the Honda CX500 range over time, one of which was used in the GL500 bikes as well (and probably the 400cc TI bikes). The later basket seems to have been introduced with the transistorised ignition bikes, hence the references to CDI and TI bikes here. The visual difference is fairly obvious; first, here’s clutch basket used on CDI bikes, which is the more common variant:

Six big rivets on the back, and a protruding center piece:

The TI variant has obvious springs:

There’s no protruding center part on the TI basket:

The teeth around the back are identical between the two:

You’ll note that the TI basket has one spring that is a different colour than the rest; this is the primary cushion spring:

The remaining springs are all of the same colour, and are hopefully unbroken in your bike:

The TI clutch basket uses the springs to dampen vibrations, where the CDI basket uses internal rubber pieces to provide a cushioning effect. To see images of the CDI internal rubbers, click here.
