Japan seems to be the only country which got a GL500 Wing – though this isn’t very much like the GL500 and GL500I Silverwing from 1981 and 1982, these are earlier models:
These photos come courtesy of Jack from Perth – thanks for letting us use them. This is his bike.
The Carb ID is VB-36ACQJ which matches up with a 1978 CX500 from Australia and probably elsewhere – we are working on getting more Carb ID numbers.
So what can we tell from the photos? It’s a CDI bike – the rear engine hanger and advance pulser cover shape give that away. It has a single spine frame unlike the later GL500 sold in the US and elsewhere. The dipstick is beige rather than black and the front brake master cylinder is round and black – which suggest it’s close to if not the same as a 1978 CX500.
We’re looking for more information on these as there’s scarce amounts on the Internet (in English, anyhow) – so if you know more about them please drop me a line at jc AT motofaction DOT org. The production numbers that we are aware of so far can be found on the “how many were made” page
