Honda recommend using at least 91 RON unleaded fuel. Fuel containing ethanol is theoretically OK for use so long as the ethanol content is 10% or lower, and anything higher may cause damage or corrosion to the fuel tank/lines/etc.
For what it’s worth, we won’t use E10 (10% ethanol fuel) in our bikes – given that 91RON is readily available where we are there really isn’t any reason to, given that it’s barely cheaper than 91 and you get slightly poorer mileage out of it there isn’t a convincing financial reason to do so, and with the potential issues relating to the fuel system and water retention in the fuel causing damage the potential downsides aren’t negligible. We’ll use 95RON over E10 if 91 is unavailable.
98RON seems to cause more backfiring due to the slower burning nature of the higher octane fuel, so we’ll also choose 95 over 98! It’s worth trying out your local fuels to see how the various octane numbers and brands available affect your own motorbike, so you can make an informed decision yourself.
