So you have removed the spark plugs from your Ford Laser KN or KQ 1.6L engine, got yourself some new spark plugs for it and now you need to know how to install them. Read on!
First, make sure that there’s no dirt, debris, oil or other stuff at the bottom of the spark plug well. If there is, remove it or clean it! You don’t want anything getting in the way of the plug seating properly.
Using your 5/16″ or 16mm spark plug socket, thread in the spark plug to the engine by hand until it’s as tight as you can get it with just the socket extension.

Attach your bar and tighten a further 1/2 to 2/3 of a turn:

If you feel the plug tighten up and become hard to tighten further don’t push it. Repeat for the other three and you should end up with a neat set of four new plugs in your head:

Replacing the coil-on-plugs (COP) and plug leads, right side first as you are looking into the engine bay – COP first:

Skip one and the next coil on plug goes in:

The plug lead for that second COP heads back to sit inbetween the two COPs:

Press that lead in until it “clicks” onto the top of the spark plug. Same for the other lead:

Grab the bolts you removed from the COPs:

Using a 10mm socket reinstall them – we don’t have a torque figure for these but it won’t be a huge amount – don’t overdo it and crack the plastic:

Reinstalled:

Repeat for the other COP, double check that everything is secured properly and then start the car up to check your work!
